FAQs about Memory Lane TV
What is Memory Lane TV?
Stated most simply, Memory Lane TV is a tool for helping to manage the many mood and behavioral effects often caused by, or associated with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This tool is in the form of therapeutically designed audio-visual content that we deliver, or “stream” to your home or facility over the internet. Many of the content modules (i.e. films) are designed to be used in tandem with specifically paired aromas to stimulate the sense of smell (i.e. olfactory stimulation), in addition to the audio-visual stimulation.
Who will benefit from Memory Lane TV?
Memory Lane TV is designed to benefit people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, the primary “users” of the service, but care partners can also see direct benefits from using the service as well. For both groups, we have seen improvements with regard to mood, stress, and anxiety levels, and test users also reported improvements in the quality of interactions between care partners and residents/loved-ones with use of MLTV. Our goal is to help both to achieve their best quality of life at any stage of progression.
What benefits or outcomes can we expect from using Memory Lane TV?
During our product development phase, we gathered feedback from roughly 500 test users in residential care settings, and the feedback suggests users can expect some or all of the following, positive benefits (we’re happy to note that no negative outcomes were reported!):
- 74% of test users reported improved mood/anxiety levels in staff/care partner and residents
- 67% of test users reported positive impact to resident engagement
- 70% of test users reported improvement in interactions with residents
- 70% of test users reported reduction in resident stress levels
- 95% of test users noted an overall positive impact from using MLTV
What makes the content on Memory Lane TV different from regular TV, or even other content aimed at people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia?
Content designed for traditional broadcast TV or digital streaming services is generally linear, driven by plot and characters. Or news/editorial in nature.
Unlike regular TV, or even many of the types of content aimed at this audience, our content is based on the neurological relationship between sensory stimulation and memory activation – we studied more than fifty years of published research and synthesized & tested specific content design protocols to positively influence the mood & behavioral changes associated with Alzheimer’s & other forms of dementia. It is plot and character-free; it is designed to match relevant attention spans; and it differs in many other ways from typical TV content, or even other content aimed at this specific community.
